The K20/K24 Water Pump: Every Variant, Every Year

Honda changed the K-series water pump spec four times between 2002 and 2015. Here's the complete cross-reference so you never order the wrong one — a mistake that can cost you a second timing belt job.

The K-series engine (K20 and K24) is Honda's most successful four-cylinder platform, appearing in almost every model from 2001 through 2015. The water pump on these engines is timing-belt driven — meaning it's replaced at every timing belt service. Order the wrong one and you'll find out when it doesn't bolt up, which is a problem if the belt is already off.

The confusion comes from Honda's mid-cycle revisions. The K24A engine used in the 2003–2007 Accord is not the same as the K24Z used in the 2008–2012 Accord — and neither shares a water pump with the K24A4 in the 2007–2011 CR-V, even though all three are "2.4L L4" in aftermarket fitment guides.

K-Series Engine Code Decoder

Before picking a water pump, identify your exact engine code. It's stamped on the engine block, on the emissions label under the hood, and in your service manual:

Engine CodeDisplacementApplicationYears
K20A22.0LCivic Si (EP3)2002–2005
K20Z32.0LCivic Si (FG2/FD2)2006–2011

K24A42.4LAccord CL/CM, TSX2003–2007
K24A82.4LCR-V RE3/RE42007–2011
K24Z22.4LCR-V RE3/RE4 (late)2010–2011

Water Pump Cross-Reference by OEM Part Number

Critical note: The water pump mounts to the engine block and is sealed with an O-ring. A mismatch in the mounting face diameter or O-ring groove size will result in a coolant leak that may not appear immediately — sometimes not until the engine reaches full operating temperature.

OEM Part NumberEngine(s)Notes
19200-PNA-003K20A2, K20A3Early 2.0L units 2001–2005. 6-blade impeller.
19200-RAA-A01K24A4, K24A82003–2007 Accord 2.4L, 2002–2006 CR-V. Most common K24 pump. 7-blade impeller.
19200-RZA-A01K24Z3, K24Z72008+ Accord, 2012+ CR-V. Revised seal design. NOT interchangeable with RAA-A01.
19200-RTA-003K24A (Element)2003–2011 Element. Same family as RAA-A01 but different O-ring groove depth.
19200-RNA-A01K20Z32006–2011 Civic Si 2.0L. Unique mounting pattern — not shared with any 2.4L application.

The Most Common Mistake: RAA vs RZA

The swap between 19200-RAA-A01 and 19200-RZA-A01 is the single most common water pump ordering error we see. Both fit 2.4L Accords — but the RAA fits 2003–2007 and the RZA fits 2008–2012. The body is nearly identical. The O-ring groove depth is different. You won't know it's wrong until you have coolant on your garage floor.

Always confirm your model year before ordering. If you're between 2007–2008, also check your 8th-digit VIN (build date character) — early 2008 models sometimes used carry-over RAA-A01 units in the last production run.

What to Buy With the Water Pump

Since the K-series water pump is timing-belt driven, you should always replace it as part of a complete timing belt service. Order a complete kit that includes:

  • Timing belt
  • Water pump (with O-ring)
  • Auto tensioner (hydraulic)
  • Idler pulley
  • Cam and crank seals (if high mileage)

Doing these components separately increases labor time and the risk of having to go back in. Gates, Dayco, and DNJ all offer matched component kits for K-series engines that include everything needed.
